Or what are some of the first ones you remember collecting if you can’t remember the first one!
Mine was Congo the Gorilla my sister gave me for Christmas one year.

There was a store in the mall with a gumball machine that gave you a discount at the store depending on the color you got. If i got higher than 50% I’d buy a beanie baby.
Nanook! I think my mom got him for me, I’d have to ask for the story. I gave him away at some point but just recently found a new one at a thrift store, so I bought him immediately.
my first (and still only) beanie baby is silver the cat! my parents got him for me in 2002 and he’s still with me today sans whiskers
my entire plushie collection is currently in storage but i will be making a megapost when we move to our new apt
Mine was a Orangutan called Schweetheart.
I distinctly remember giving him a haircut at some point. (I thought it’d grow back. It did not).
That said, are beanie babies still huge collectors items?
For the old ones, if they are missing their tag or have a star on the tag it’s not really sought after (with some exceptions, some star tags are rare). There are price guides you can buy which give a good idea on what old ones are actually worth.
They still have a huge presence in retail stores. There are new ones with huge glittery eyes called Beanie Boos.
