Steiff, and the legacy of the ‘teddy bear’
Have you heard of Steiff? Possibly not by name, but you’ve certainly heard of the teddy bear!
Steiff are the teddy bear brand that prides itself on quality and attention to detail. The bears are hand-made using luxurious materials ranging from high-quality synthetic to Alpaca wool.
Steiff’s teddy bears gained significant popularity after being showcased at the Leipzig Toy Fair in 1903, just one year after the Teddy Roosevelt bear hunt incident in 1902. The Steiff company received a large order from an American buyer, which helped the bears quickly gain international attention.
Since this inception, Steiff bears have become the mainstay for upmarket plush teddy bears. Steiff benefits from its pedigree in the second-hand market, with some rare Steiff bears fetching a very pretty penny.
